Switching from ExpressNumber to NumberBurn

NumberBurn works the same way as ExpressNumber: a receive-only US number, calls that ring your own mobile, texts in a web inbox and a one-tap burn. Your numbers do not move across, so switching means picking new ones, setting each to the mode you want and handing them out. NumberBurn Basic is $9.99 a month for 5 numbers and Pro is $29.99 a month for 100. ExpressNumber's pricing page lists the same monthly prices and number counts, so the monthly plan price does not change. Setup is five steps, and the 7-day trial costs $1.

Start a 7-day trialSee pricing
  • $1 for a 7-day trial. When the 7 days end, your card is charged $9.99 for the first month, and the plan renews at $9.99 every month until you cancel.
  • If the trial's allowance runs out first, use pauses and nothing more is charged until the 7 days end or you start the plan yourself.
  • Extra minutes, numbers and burns go on the same monthly bill.
  • Cancel any time with our ready-made cancel email. No reason needed. The plan runs to the end of the paid month, then your numbers are burned into a 30-day quarantine.
  • Your first paid month can be refunded within 7 days of paying it. Write to hello@numberburn.com to ask.

What moves over

Nothing is imported, because NumberBurn assigns its own numbers and starts with an empty inbox. What carries over is how you work: each idea on the left has a counterpart on the right, and you set each one up again.

What you have on ExpressNumberWhat it becomes on NumberBurnHow it gets there
The numbers you handed outNew numbers in the area codes you pickPick an area code and NumberBurn assigns an available number in it. Give the new number to each site, store or contact that has an old one. Until its plan month ends or its free week ends, an ExpressNumber number keeps working, so both can run side by side.
A name on each numberA label on each numberAdd the same names as labels, such as the dealer or the listing the number went to. NumberBurn then shows how many calls each label took over the last 30 days.
Forward, Texts only and BlockForward, Texts only and BlockThe three modes work the same way and share their names. Set each new number to the mode the old one was in. Modes and labels covers each one.
Your confirmed mobileYour confirmed mobileConfirm the same phone again by texting START and the 4-digit code shown to you, from that phone. See verify your mobile.
Your text historyA new inboxTexts that arrived on ExpressNumber are not imported. NumberBurn keeps a text for 30 days after it arrives, so copy any code or message you still need before you cancel the old plan.
Your burned numbersNothing to moveExpressNumber's questions page says a burn is permanent and the number cannot be had back. A burned number does not come to NumberBurn.

How long it takes

NumberBurn's own getting-started guide has five steps, from picking an area code to burning a number. Moving existing numbers adds one job on top: updating each place that holds an old number. The checklist below is in the order that avoids a gap in calls.

  1. Start your NumberBurn trial

The 7-day trial costs $1. It holds 1 number and up to 100 forwarded minutes, so use it to check that calls and texts reach you before you move the rest.

  2. Pick an area code

Choose the area code you want. NumberBurn assigns an available number in it.

  3. Confirm your mobile

Text START and the 4-digit code from the phone that should ring.

  4. Label it and set its mode

Copy the name and the mode from the ExpressNumber number it replaces.

  5. Choose a plan before you move more than one

The trial holds 1 number. Basic includes 5 numbers and Pro includes 100. See pricing.

  6. Hand out the new number

Update the listing, form, store or contact that held the old number. Keep the old number running until its calls and texts stop.

  7. Cancel ExpressNumber when you are ready

Its pricing page says you cancel from Billing in its dashboard, that the plan runs to the end of the month you paid for, and that its numbers are burned after that. It also says there are no partial refunds, so time the cancellation near the end of its billing month.

Rules that work differently

  • Burning. ExpressNumber's pricing page lists no charge for a burn. On NumberBurn, the first burn each UTC calendar month after the trial is free and each further burn adds $1 to the next bill. The trial has no extra burns.
  • Refunds. ExpressNumber's pricing page says there are no partial refunds when a plan is cancelled. On NumberBurn: Your first paid month can be refunded within 7 days of paying it. Write to hello@numberburn.com to ask.
  • Cancelling. On ExpressNumber you cancel from Billing in the dashboard. On NumberBurn: Cancel any time with our ready-made cancel email. No reason needed. The plan runs to the end of the paid month, then your numbers are burned into a 30-day quarantine.
  • Trial charge. ExpressNumber's trial costs $0 today. NumberBurn's costs $1, and if the trial allowance runs out first, usage pauses and nothing more is charged until the trial days end or you start your plan.

What stays the same

  • Numbers are receive-only: they take calls and texts and never make them.
  • They cannot reach 911, so keep your own line for emergencies.
  • Numbers are US only.
  • There is no app: calls ring the phone you already carry and you manage everything in a browser.
  • Some banks and services refuse virtual numbers, so keep your own number for those.

Where these facts come from

Questions

Can I keep my ExpressNumber numbers?

NumberBurn assigns its own numbers, so each ExpressNumber number stays with ExpressNumber. You pick new numbers here and hand them out. Per ExpressNumber's pricing page, its numbers keep working to the end of the month you paid for, so you can run both side by side while you update each place.

Will my message history come with me?

No. NumberBurn starts with an empty inbox and keeps each text for 30 days. ExpressNumber's questions page says message history stays in its inbox after a number is burned. Copy anything you still need before you cancel.

Do I pay for both while I switch?

Yes, for as long as both are active. The NumberBurn 7-day trial costs $1, then your plan starts. ExpressNumber's plan runs to the end of the month you paid for, and its pricing page says there are no partial refunds, so cancel it close to the end of its billing month.

Do I confirm my mobile again?

Yes. Text START and the 4-digit code shown to you from the phone that should ring. Each mobile can be confirmed on one NumberBurn account. See verify your mobile.

Are the plans the same size?

9 of the 10 rows in the comparison above match. The table lists what differs, and pricing has the full plan list. The first paid month can be refunded within 7 days.

Who do I write to if I get stuck?

Write to hello@numberburn.com.
