Who we are
NumberBurn ("we", "us") provides the service and decides how the data below is used. Write to us at hello@numberburn.com.
What is stored
To run NumberBurn the service stores the items below.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Account email | The email address on your account. |
| Forwarding mobile | The mobile you verified, and its line type (for example mobile, landline or VoIP). |
| Texts | Texts received by your numbers, shown in your inbox. |
| Media files | Pictures and other media sent to your numbers, up to 5 MB each. Larger media is recorded as "could not store". |
| Call metadata | The time of each call, the caller number and the answered seconds. |
| Signup IP | The IP address used when the account was created. |
Why it is stored
The items above are used to forward calls to your mobile, show texts in your inbox, bill for forwarded minutes, keep to one account per person and per forwarding mobile, and deal with abuse (see the acceptable use policy).
How long it is kept
We keep texts, media and call details for a limited period and then delete them. When you burn a number, forwarding stops and the number is held in quarantine before it goes back to the carrier pool; the terms explain what happens next. Some records, such as payment and tax records, are kept as long as the law requires.
Who processes data
Running the service involves outside companies. They are listed here by role.
| Role | What it does for the service |
|---|---|
| A telephone carrier | Supplies the numbers and carries the calls and texts. |
| A payment processor | Takes card payment at checkout and handles billing. |
| An email delivery provider | Sends emails such as usage alerts, and texts forwarded to your email if you turn that on. |
| A cloud storage provider | Stores media files. |
Your rights and how to use them
Wherever you live you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to receive it in a portable file. You can also burn any number yourself at any time, which stops forwarding; see the terms for what happens next.
California
If you live in California you have the right to know what personal information we hold, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context advertising. The companies in the table above process data for us to run the service. We do not treat you differently for using these rights. An authorized agent may make a request for you; we may ask the agent for proof of authority and ask you to confirm with us.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom
If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, portability and objection. You can also complain to your local data protection authority; in the United Kingdom that is the Information Commissioner's Office.
How to make a request
- Email hello@numberburn.com from the address on your account and say which right you want to use.
- We may need to confirm your identity first.
- We answer within the time the law requires.
- Some records may have to be kept after a deletion, such as payment and tax records and security logs.
