# Limits and 911

What a NumberBurn number cannot do: it is receive-only, it cannot call 911, it is US only, and some banks and apps refuse it.

A NumberBurn number does less than a phone line on purpose. Read these limits before you rely on one.

## Receive-only

A NumberBurn number only receives calls and texts. It cannot place a call, send a text or reply to one. There is no outbound feature at all.

## No 911

> **Never rely on a NumberBurn number for emergencies:** A NumberBurn number cannot place any call, so it cannot call 911 or any other emergency number. Use your own phone for emergencies.

Because the numbers are receive-only, there is no way to dial out from one, and no emergency address is tied to a NumberBurn number.

## US numbers only

NumberBurn offers US phone numbers only, in a set of supported US area codes. Your confirmed mobile receives forwarded calls.

## Sites that refuse virtual numbers

Some banks and apps refuse virtual numbers, and a text code may never be sent to one. NumberBurn cannot change that. Check a site's own rules before you depend on a NumberBurn number for it, and keep your own number for accounts that matter, such as your bank.

## Acceptable use

NumberBurn closes accounts used for fraud, ban evasion, harassment, illegal activity, evading legal identity requirements, collecting verification codes in volume, reselling numbers or creating accounts by automation.
