# One-tap burn

Burn a number in one tap. Forwarding stops at once, messages stay visible, and the number is quarantined 30 days before it is released.

Burning is how a burner number ends. Forwarding stops at once, your message history stays readable, and the number sits out of circulation before it returns to the carrier pool.

## How it works

1. **Open the number and tap Burn.** Every number in your account has a burn action.
2. **Read the confirmation.** The screen says what will happen and shows any charge before you confirm. Nothing is charged until you do.
3. **Confirm.** Forwarding stops at once. The number takes no more calls for you.
4. **Keep your history.** Texts already received stay visible in your account. The number then moves to quarantine.

## What happens to a burned number

| Stage | How long | What it means |

| Burned | At once | Forwarding stops. Message history stays visible to you. |
| Quarantined | 30 days | The number is held out of circulation and is not reissued. |
| Released | Metadata kept 90 days | The number returns to the carrier pool. Its metadata is deleted after the retention period. |

## What a burn costs

- The trial has no extra burns: it holds one number, which you can burn.
- After the trial, the first burn each UTC calendar month is free.
- Each further burn in the same month adds $1 to your next bill.
- The burn screen shows the charge before you confirm.

## Limits

> **A burn cannot be undone:** Burning is permanent. A burned number does not come back to your account, and after the 30-day quarantine it returns to the carrier pool. When a cancellation ends or payments keep failing, the numbers on the account are burned into quarantine too.
