# NumberBurn vs Google Voice

NumberBurn against Google Voice: monthly price, numbers included, trial and how each handles calls and texts, checked 2026-10-18.

Google Voice has a plan with no monthly fee for personal use and paid standalone plans at $10 and $20 a month, each for one user. NumberBurn Basic costs $9.99 a month for 5 numbers ($2 each), and Pro costs $29.99 for 100 ($0.30 each). A personal Google account starts with one initial number. Basic costs less per month than the cheapest paid Google plan.

## Where NumberBurn does better

- Burning a number takes one tap, which ends forwarding immediately and parks the number for 30 days.
- 5 numbers come with Basic and 100 with Pro, so a number per listing or per site is one plan.
- Setup is a text code from your own mobile, with a 7-day trial of 1 number and 100 minutes.
- Calls ring your own phone and texts are read in a browser, so nothing needs installing.

## Feature by feature

| | NumberBurn | Google Voice |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What a month costs | **Yes.** Basic is $9.99 a month and Pro is $29.99 a month. | **Yes.** A personal plan with no fee exists, and the standalone paid plans cost $10 and $20 a month. |
| A trial before you pay | **Yes.** A 7-day trial gives 1 number and 100 forwarded minutes. | **Partly.** Google Workspace opens with a trial of 14 days covering up to 10 seats; the Voice pages describe no separate trial for the Voice plans. |
| Numbers a plan includes | **Yes.** Basic includes 5 numbers and Pro includes 100. | **Partly.** A personal account comes with one initial number, and the standalone plans cover a single user. |
| Discarding a number on demand | **Yes.** One tap burns a number, forwarding stops at once, and the number is quarantined for 30 days. | **Partly.** The pages we read cover porting out, a 3-month inactivity reclaim and a 30-day wait to rebuy after cancelling, and none describes a quick discard. |
| Calls ring the handset you already own | **Yes.** Calls to a NumberBurn number ring your confirmed mobile, and texts are read in the browser inbox. | **Yes.** Every plan can forward calls to a linked number, and the no-fee plan needs one to work. |
| Works without installing an app | **Yes.** There is no app: setup, the text inbox and burning all happen in the browser. | **Yes.** Setup and settings steps are done on a computer, and mobile apps are listed as one feature among others. |
| Where numbers can be had | **Partly.** NumberBurn numbers are US only. | **Partly.** Personal and standalone plans give US numbers only, and Workspace add-ons reach 14 countries or regions. |
| An identity check for a new number | **No.** NumberBurn sets up by confirming your mobile with a text code. | **Yes.** A new number stays silent until a government ID check passes, and a manual review can take up to 3 business days. |
| Emergency calling | **No.** A NumberBurn number is receive only and cannot place any call, so it has no 911. | **Partly.** The paid plans list 911 support and the no-fee plan does not. |

Prices move, so confirm on Google Voice's own page before you buy. On NumberBurn only forwarded calls count toward minutes, each call rounded up to a whole minute, and incoming texts cost nothing. Each minute beyond the plan's allowance is 5 cents, with a ceiling of $50 a month on Basic and $100 on Pro.

## Different jobs

Google Voice is a number you keep. It has a no-fee personal tier, paid tiers with call recording, desk phone support and 911, and Workspace add-ons that add users and countries. It suits one person who wants a long-lived line for calling and texting.

NumberBurn is a number you hand out and throw away. It is receive only, calls ring your own phone, and one tap burns the number so the person you gave it to stops reaching you. Basic and Pro are sized around holding several numbers at once.

If you want a line to call out from, Google Voice does that and NumberBurn does not. For a number to put on a listing, a form or a stranger that you can cut off later, that is the job NumberBurn is built for.

## Limits Google Voice documents

### Identity check before a new number works

A person who asks for a new number has to pass an identity check with a government-issued ID, and a manual review can take up to 3 business days. The number stays silent until it passes, and attempts are limited. Source: [https://support.google.com/voice/answer/16768664](https://support.google.com/voice/answer/16768664), read 2026-10-18.

**NumberBurn.** NumberBurn setup is a text code sent from your own mobile.

### Numbers can be reclaimed after inactivity

Google may take back a number when it sees no calls or texts for about 3 months, and it advises watching email for a notice. Source: [https://support.google.com/voice/answer/9230450](https://support.google.com/voice/answer/9230450), read 2026-10-18.

### One account per person

The use policy asks people not to create multiple accounts, not to forward to numbers they do not control and not to send automated or bulk messages. Source: [https://support.google.com/voice/answer/9230450](https://support.google.com/voice/answer/9230450), read 2026-10-18.

**NumberBurn.** NumberBurn also allows one account per person and one account per forwarding mobile.

### Port fees and timing

Moving a mobile number in costs $20 and can take up to 48 hours. Unlocking a number to move it out costs $3, unless it was ported in. After a port-out, some outside services may refuse numbers that began on Google Voice. ### Standalone plan eligibility

Standalone plans need a personal Gmail account, a US number and an adult account holder. After cancelling, a person waits 30 days to buy again. Source: [https://support.google.com/voice/answer/16515632](https://support.google.com/voice/answer/16515632), read 2026-10-18.

## Questions

### Is Google Voice free?

Google describes a free version with basic features for personal use. It needs a phone number to forward calls and has no 911 support. Paid standalone plans start at $10 a month. NumberBurn has no free plan, only a trial.

### Does Google Voice ask for ID?

Google says a person who requests a new number must complete an identity check and should have a government-issued ID ready. NumberBurn confirms your mobile with a text code during setup.

### Can I discard a Google Voice number the way I burn a NumberBurn number?

The Google pages we read describe porting, cancelling and reclaiming numbers but no burn step. In NumberBurn one tap stops forwarding at once and quarantines the number for 30 days.

### Which is cheaper for several numbers?

Google's pages describe one initial number per personal account and per-user prices of $10, $20 and $30 on Workspace add-ons. Basic includes 5 numbers for $9.99 a month and Pro includes 100 for $29.99.
